Bedford Recycling strives to be a valuable asset to our customers, our community, and our planet. As a buyer and seller of
scrap metals, we serve a wide variety of customers.
We began as a traditional metals salvage operation, which we remain to this day. We buy old appliances, cars, aluminum cans,
farm equipment, copper and insulated copper wire, and all sorts of other metal items. We also provide on-site containers for
industry where scrap metal is routinely generated, and for demolition sites and other scrap metal generating activities.
Since the mid 1990’s, we have also become experts in the field of demilitarization. Over the years we have had extensive experience
in demilitarization and marketing of all kinds of military scrap.
On March 23, 2009, Bedford Recycling opened a new scrap metal buying facility outside the old Dana Manufacturing plant behind the
Credit Union off of Highway 37 in Mitchell, IN. The facility buys almost all scrap metals from the public. Bedford Recycling
focuses on providing the best customer experience available and is always working to improve it.
At Bedford Recycling's Mitchell Collection Site, sellers of scrap metal will find an organized, efficient and service oriented buyer
that pays top dollar for most metals, especially steel and sheet iron goods (Bedford Recycling operates their own shredder at their
Bedford location, which allows them to pay top dollar for materials in most cases.)
Of course, the integrity of the transaction and fairness to the customer are impeccable, with every aspect of the transaction visible
and open to the seller's inspection (including all scale weights.)
Recycling takes items and materials that are of no further use to anyone, and puts those materials back to work, making
them useful again. All without having to dig anything out of the earth (each ton of recycled steel is a ton that isn't made from
steel that requires additional natural resources).
In 2008 BRI recycled 34,637 gross tons (77,586,880 lbs) of steel and 2,317,352 lbs of aluminum.
A major concentration of BRI has been the demilitarization of sensitive military equipment and ordnance. Under surveillance
of military personnel, BRI has demilitarized and recycled various aircraft, including the F-4B Phantom, the AV-8B Harrier,
the B-2 Spirit (stealth bomber), various helicopters, and other miscellaneous aircraft and parts. BRI has also demilitarized
over 1600 combat tanks, including various levels of the M48 and M60A3 Series tanks.
In addition, BRI has extensive experience and specialized machinery & tooling, for processing 3X projectiles into scrap. We
have processed well over 400,000 projectiles ranging in size from 76mm up to 2700 lb16-inch/50-cal naval projectiles. All
without incident.
Twenty years of experience in demilitarizing military munitions and combat vehicle equipment has allowed BRI to gain the
expertise necessary to successfully complete almost any project on or off site.
Bedford Recycling takes pride in providing exceptional service for our industrial customers. Whether you are in manufacturing, construction, or demolition, we understand that running your business takes a lot of effort and attention, so you don’t need to be worrying about how you get rid of your scrap metal. That’s where we come in. We will work with you to make sure that getting rid of your scrap becomes our issue and not yours. We have our own trucking company and dozens of roll off boxes which allows us to keep you well serviced and also respond to most special requests.
Do you have your own scrap metal collection operation, but do little processing of the materials? We may be able to help. For large enough volumes of sorted materials (especially sheet iron and autos), we may be able to provide special pricing that will maximize the amount of money you get for your materials
Bedford Recycling employs over 50 people at multiple locations. We offer health insurance as well as 401k plans.
